In 1957, at the age of 21, Terry L. Towner stood on his first piece of property looking over the seedling Christmas Trees that he and his father Llewellyn Towner had just planted. He knew it would take a few years before they were large enough to sell, and until then, he would have to live on his salary of $9,000. There were some big shoes to fill; his father had been a successful businessman in real estate, auto sales and agriculture for quite a few years, and had a reputation for being a fair and honest person. "Always do more than your share," and "always stay good to your word" were typical examples of Llewellyn's work ethic, and Terry vowed to live up to them. Twenty years (and much more acreage!) later, Terry built up a respectable wholesale clientele, as well as featuring a yearly retail lot in the Town of Addison. Christmas Tree resellers from Rochester, Syracuse, and New York City became regular customers, buying several hundred trees at wholesale and selling them retail in their home towns. For years, people from Addison and several other surrounding small towns had had to travel several miles away or trudge into the forest just to get a Christmas Tree. Now that a lot was set up in their neighborhood, however, they had only to go downtown and pick the one they wanted. In 1976, Terry met Barbara Marts, his wife-to-be. Working as a secretary for an Addison lawyer, the two were wed soon after, and Barbara applied her valuable skills to Towner Tree Farms. In June of 1997, Terry's son Scott L. Towner moved back to Addison and became part of the business. Now you know us by face and name. If you visit, don't hesitate to ask for a tour or help buying trees.
